In my opinion, good businessmen like Yury Mintskovsky, Mark Zuckerberg or Richard Branson can also learn us a lot of useful and important things in order to have success in our business. Anyway, very helpful tips on how to have a successful business in 2012! thanks for sharing them with us! Happy Holidays! Cheers!

Thanks so much for your feedbck Larry! Excellent points! I agree, it is so easy to get caught up in price wars post recession......which as you said creates a situation where a business fizzes out quickly and becomes a commodity...thus eventually ending. I have witnessed it several times.

Thanks again for stopping by!

Happy Holidays!

All 11 points are excellent advice for the new year. Point #6 about leading, not following, was of particular interest. In today's market, those who are not the leaders become commodities constatntly struggling just to get by. Point#9 about avoiding the pitfall of discounting is on target because of another consequence of doing so: The greater a discount a prospective customer demands, the more likely such a customer will become delinquent and a collections problem. Why? Because those who demand significant discounts often don't appreciate or respect what you are doing for them and resent paying for it.

Hi Keith!

Yes very true! As I mentioned building a brand and being in demand can bring you immunity from price wars which is always great. Never let anyone force you to drive down your price (value) and brand!

Cheers!

#1 and #8 Hold true always. You can't sell ice to polar bears and you're most loyal customers are always your best advertisement. Loyal customers will sell your brand for you and yes they do think of you as a brand. They want that brand and won't settle for less.

I jumped on the Google+ bandwagon when G opened business pages. It was a total waste of time.

My employer operates a regional chain of personal loan providers. On Nov 10th, I created G+ pages for each of our locations. Even got advice from Vanessa the Google Places girl when I posted a question to one of their forums. Too bad that she forgot to mention one little detail - my user profile was limited to 20 pages. We have 35 store locations.

At that point, I threw up my hands and said "Fugetaboutit". The SEO juice from G+ was miniscule compared to the amount of time that I had invested in this amateurish attempt at social media.

BTW, nice content on your site. I came across your Facebook page while doing SEO searches.

Hi Tammy,

With any media you need to be dedicated. I absolutely agree, start with one platform and only move to the next one once you understand it and use it to the best of its abilities. No point generating thousand of followers on twitter if you are never going to engage them.

I do think for some companies who already "own" certain platforms they could move over to google. Never say never I guess. But yeah, I only got to grips with twitter after being on there for 3 months. It took me a while to be able to have phone conversation with prospects. Can I use twitter to the best of my abilities, not yet, so no I wont invest time to try to use Google but I did create my profile and did my links, SEO has a value for me and the time it took was negligible compared to the value.

Every business is different and if you do generate leads via your website I recommend people do spend a few hours to create their profiles.
