For every 5 business Facebook pages I visit, only 1 or 2 of them will have their unique url. As we talked about in my previous post to be successful in Facebook you first have to change your perspective and that means taking it seriously and looking at your page like an Internet home for your business.
Here is an example I like to use. Let’s say that you you are starting a new business and the name of that business is John’s Roofing Company. You decided that you needed a website for this new business, so let’s say you called up GoDaddy and asked them for a domain, would you ask for www.13948/johnsroofingcompany/383e4739.com? No of course not! You would ask for www.johnsroofingcompany.com .
Okay let’s go back to our keyword which is what? Say it with me, perspective. Think of your Facebook the same way, that you did your website. You want more followers? You want to get the word out easier? Great, treat it like an Internet home and that starts with your address. For example my url is www.facebook.com/socialheavy its not www.facebook.com/73e887er/pages/socialheavy/3893.com . Get it?
To achieve this go to www.facebook.com/username .
You will see this:
Choose your page and set your username according to the field.
Reasons to do this:
- It makes it easier for people to find you on Facebook when they type in your name.
- It makes it easier to share this url on your business card and any other collateral material.
- It is great for search engine optimization.
- It looks professional and clean.
If yours isn’t done, do it today!
